Simulation and Modelling, who uses it, and for what?

Do you use computer based simulation and modelling? For what do you use it for? In the Nuclear industry it is a licensing requirement to have a full scope power plant simulator for regular nuclear plant operators' training. These simulators are impressive. Simulating full power steady sate, mid loop, loss of coolant accident, components malfunctions, and many other transients. It is a "Virtual Nuclear Power Plant"

In the process industry use of full-scale simulation tools by process (chemical) engineers is quite common. Implementation of advanced process controls also requires it, though it is of a different nature. Also, there are good tools for simulation of industrial power systems, both real-time tools and design/performance tools.

Hi David, that is very interesting. I did not know that Simulation is used as part of process control systems. I am only aware of its use in training, process/design modelling and research. I am very interested in seeing how it is used in a process application. What kind of "qualified person" is responsible for simulation in your application? Is it a discipline engineer, or a specialised " Simulation Engineer"?

Hi Antik, you do not need C programming skills for to learn PLC programming. What you need to learn is a programming standard called IEC 61131. It is a PLC programming language standard. You can download a PLC free emulation software online and start learning. There are a lot of resources online.
